Henry Cavill Returns as Geralt in The Witcher Season Two

The Witcher starring Henry Cavill is coming to Netflix, the streaming giant much sooner than anticipated. Fans of the fantasy drama series will be pleased to know that the long-awaited season 2 will be premiering on December 17, 2021. The news was revealed at the inaugural online WitcherCon event which was hosted by Netflix and CD Projekt Red –  creator of The Witcher Games and Cyberpunk

Season 2 of The Witcher will consist of eight episodes and will pick up from the climatic end of the first season with Geralt and Ciri finally meeting each other. Netflix has also revealed the episode titles for the season which are as follows:

  • What is Lost
  • Redanian Intelligence
  • Turn Your Back
  • Dear Friend
  • Voleth Meir

Season 2 will follow Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) as he finally meets the exiled Princess Cirilla (Freya Allan). The duo will travel to the ancestral home of the Witcher’s school of the Wolf: Kaer Morhen, where Geralt was trained. While the Continent’s kings, elves, humans, and demons strive for supremacy outside its walls, Geralt must protect the girl from the powerful magic that lies within her – magic that someone like Yennefer (Anya Chalotra) could help with. 

Netflix has also dropped the first trailer for The Witcher season two after teasing fans with tiny snippets last month. 

Fans of The Witcher series will be delighted to know that apart from the main show, two spinoff series are already in the works. The Witcher: Blood Origin, is a six-part live-action miniseries that takes place 1200 years before the events of the show. It will focus on the origin story of the magically mutated Witchers and will lay the foundations of the fantasy world.

Apart from this, The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, an anime spin-off film will focus on the origin story of Geralt’s mentor and fellow witcher Vesemir. It is slated for a release on August 23, 2021. Netflix’s The Witcher is based on the novels by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. The show’s release also garnered a renewed interest in The Witcher games created by CD Projekt Red. It was also revealed that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be getting a new-gen update for PS5, Xbox Series and PC. New DLCs inspired by the Netflix series will also be added to 2015’s Game of the Year.
