The Walking Dead Season 11 Review
The Walking Dead Season 11 part one ended on a high-energy cliffhanger with our characters battling the dead and fighting the living. From infiltrating Meridian to take down the Reapers to surviving the storm in Alexandria, the show’s constant back and forth between three simultaneous narratives leaves viewers with no room to catch a breath.
Pope (Ritchie Coster) is introduced as the leader of the Reapers and is the main antagonist of this part. He is scary, merciless and brutal – which is the perfect recipe for a frightening character. This is why killing him off in the first part of the season finale run seems jarring. For now, Leah (Lynn Collins) will likely take over as the leader and main antagonist for the next part. The Reapers while initially shown as really tough guys with even scarier looking masks, at the end turned out to be a regular run of the mill bad guys.
The storm in Alexandria or the zombie hurricane narrative seems very forced and flawed. Apart from that one scene where we saw Rosita (Christian Serratos) take on a bunch of walkers, this narrative seemed to be created just to exchange cheesy and cliche dialogues between the characters.
Meanwhile watching Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) battle out their differences while grudgingly working together was well portrayed. The tension, uncertainty and the lack of trust between the duo was one the main element why we stayed invested in the show. Looking back, the duo and Daryl (Norman Reedus) held the season together beautifully.
Coming to the third ongoing narrative in the season, our characters seem to have landed themselves in trouble with the Commonwealth community. With Eugene (Josh McDermitt) being questioned about the location of Alexandria, the two communities will likely meet in the next part. The teaser for The Walking Dead Season 11 part two pretty much confirms this theory.
The final run of the AMC flagship series is divided into three parts with eight episodes each. The Walking Dead Season 11 part two will be dropping on AMC on 21st February 2022.
Final Verdict: 3.5 stars (out of 5)
