Black Adam Trailer Introduces The Rock as DC’s Anti-Hero’
Black Adam featuring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has dropped its first teaser that flies right into the action. The upcoming big-budget DC film is slated to release on October 21, 2022.
Dwayne Johnson will play the iconic god-like figure in the upcoming picture, which is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, who previously collaborated with Johnson on Disney’s Jungle Cruise (2021).
The teaser reveals Black Adam’s origins, showing that he was once a slave who escaped from the tomb where he has been imprisoned for 5,000 years. Black Adam joins forces with an old magician and travels to Earth to face the Justice Society of America.
Black Adam appears to be motivated by his prior suffering, and it will be fascinating to see how the film handles his mental and physical journey. The teaser suggests that Black Adam must choose between being a hero or a villain, and based on his response to the topic of whether heroes kill people, it appears that he chooses the darker road.
Black Adam is a spin-off of Shazam! (2019) that is technically part of the DCEU. Interestingly, they both derive their abilities from the same wizard. There was still no trace of Shazam in any of this footage, and the character may not even have a role in the film, but he could be included towards the end to set up the sequel.
Zachary Levi played Shazam in the first film and he will reprise his role in its sequel Shazam: Fury of the Gods – which is scheduled to release on December 21, 2022, just a few months after the release of Black Adam on October 21, 2022.
Apart from Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam, we also get a look at Aldis Hodge’s Hawkman, Noah Centineo’s Atom Smasher, Quintessa Swindell’s Cyclone and Pierce Brosnan’s Dr Fate.
