Everything we know about Marvel’s WandaVision

WandaVision will be the first Marvel Cinematic Universe TV show to debut on Disney Plus. The show will follow the latest adventures of Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bethany). Marvel Studios will keep their eyes peeled to capture the TV market after dominating the film industry for the past decade. Here’s everything that you need to know about WandaVision before its premiere.

When will WandaVision release?

On November 12th, Marvel Studios took to Twitter to announce the release of WandaVision. The show will premiere on January 15th on Disney Plus. It was initially supposed to air in late 2020 but was pushed back to 2021.

How many episodes will it have?

The series will have six episodes and will follow the events of Avengers: Endgame.

Who is the cast of WandaVision?

As evident from the title, Wanda(Olsen) and Vision(Bethany) will be the main leads of the show. The series will also feature characters who have appeared in several films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Jimmy Woo(Randall Park), the FBI agent from Antman and the Wasp(2018) along with Darcy Lewis(Kat Dennings) from the first two Thor movies will be making an appearance in WandaVision. Monica Rambeau (Teyonah Parris) will be playing the grown-up version of the child character from Captain Marvel

What do we know about the series?

Wanda and Vision will be living a euphoric suburban life while trying to restrain their powers. WandaVision head writer Jac Schaeffer stated that “The show is a love letter to the golden age of television.”

WandaVision’s trailer, needless to say, brought in a flurry of questions from fans. The headscratcher teaser was outlandish and unconventional but in a good way. The series seems to have taken inspiration from the 50s and 90s television shows. The Marvel show will also have elements of a suburban family sitcom. With a vague synopsis about the plot, fans have already begun speculating about the series.

The Disney Plus series will also pay a tribute to the comic book versions of the character, a glimpse of which can be seen in the trailer. With the casting tied into the previous MCU films, it does seem that Disney+ TV shows will tie in directly to its predecessors.

How will it affect future Marvel projects?

WandaVision will also kick off Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Kevin Fiege also stated that the events of the show will set the stage for Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Maddness (2022). The Doctor Strange sequel will see Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen feature alongside each other.

Kevin Feige also affirmed that Scarlet Witch is the most powerful superhero in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series will likely explore her reality-warping abilities and will provide more insight into her powers.

Will there be more Marvel shows?

Disney Plus will the new home for future Marvel Cinematic Universe shows. The new streaming giant will also feature a ‘Loki’ and ‘Hawkeye’ series, in which Tom Hiddlestone and Jeremy Renner will reprise their roles. Also planned are ‘She-Hulk’, ‘Moon Knight’, ‘Ms Marvel’ and the animated anthology series ‘What-If…?’ Though The Falcon and The Winter Soldier TV show was initially going to release in 2020, it was pushed back to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic halting productions.

By the end of February 2019, Netflix had severed its ties with all Marvel series which included the fan favourite show Daredevil. Marvel had earlier also cancelled Cloak and Dagger (Freeform) and Runaways(Hulu) in late 2019. With Marvel cutting its cords with other streaming services, it seems that Disney+ will soon be the exclusive hub of Marvel shows.
