Fast and Furious 9 has dropped a new action-packed trailer for the latest addition in the physics-defying franchise. The trailer is so crammed with massive action sequences that it’s hard to fathom what more enormous feats will the movie bring to the big screen. The $200 million budget film will see the action reach new heights as the trailer showed us a glimpse of cars rocketing into space.
Fast and Furious 9 or F9 as it is officially known is slated for a release in theatres on June 25.
The latest instalment in the Fast and Furious franchise will be the first blockbuster of 2021 to NOT have a simultaneous release on any streaming platforms. Unlike Godzilla vs Kong and Black Widow which are available for streaming on HBO Max and Disney Plus respectively, a digital release for F9 has not yet been announced. Though that may change as we get closer to the release date.
The movie was initially scheduled for a release in May 2020, however, the pandemic had other plans. The first trailer for F9 premiered before the start of the pandemic in January 2020. Check out the second trailer below!
The Fast and the Furious (2001) was the first instalment in the Universal Pictures owned franchise. This means that F9 will mark the two-decade anniversary of the franchise. The $5.8 billion grossing mega-franchise will hope that Fast and Furious 9 will continue the box office streak of its predecessors.
The plot of F9 will see Dominic and his family face off against the former’s previously unmentioned younger brother Jakob, a deadly assassin. Things will start to heat up when Jakob will work with Cipher, who holds a personal vendetta against Dominic.
The Cast of Fast and Furious 9
Fast and Furious 9 will see the return of several similar faces from the Fast and Furious franchise such as Vin Diesel (Dominic), Michelle Rodriguez (Letty), Tyrese Gibson (Roman), Chris ‘Ludacris’ Bridges (Tej), and Nathalie Emmanuel (Ramsey). John Cena will play the antagonist of the film has Dominic’s evil brother Jakob.
Helen Mirren (Magdalene Shaw) and Charlize Theron (Cipher) will also reprise their roles. And surprisingly, as the first trailer for F9 revealed, Sung Kang (Han Lue), whose character was presumed dead since 2006’s The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift is also back. Jordana Brewster (Mia Toretto) who’s character retired alongside the late Paul Walker (Brian O’Conner) will also make her appearance in the film.
The rest of the cast includes Amber Sienna, Michael Rooker, Martyn Ford, Lucas Black, Finn Cole and Jim Parrack. The film will also see the return of director Justin Lin, who has previously directed four films in the Fast and Furious franchise. The franchise has already received a green light for the tenth and the final eleventh instalment, both of which will also be directed by Justin Lin.
