Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be ‘The End’
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the last appearance of our beloved guardians as confirmed by series director James Gunn. The upcoming Marvel film which is currently slated to be released on May 5, 2023, will wrap up the team’s trilogy and story.
Speaking to Deadline during their latest Hero’s Nation podcast, James Gunn said, “The movie is incredibly big, it’s so so so big and dark and different than what people might be expecting it to be. This is the end for us, this is the last time people will see this team of Guardians. I just want to be true to the characters, the story, and give people the wrap-up that they deserve for the story, that’s always a little bit scary; I’m doing my best.”
The last time we saw the Guardians, the team was composed of Star-Lord (Chris Pratt), Gamora (Zoe Saldaña), Rocket (Bradley Cooper), Groot (Vin Diesel), Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Nebula (Karen Gillan) and the latest addition – Thor (Chris Hemsworth).
Joining them will be Will Poulter (Maze Runner) who is confirmed to be playing the role of Adam Warlock, who was teased at the end credits of the second film.
Speaking about the third film, Gunn added “That is always a little bit scary. I’m very aware that the third film in most trilogies suck.”
However, before the release of the third movie, we will be seeing the Guardians in Thor 4: Love and Thunder – which will play out what happened to Thor after he was last seen leaving with the Guardians in Avengers: Endgame. Apart from this, we also have the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special which will be released at the end of 2022.
Taika Waititi will be directing Thor: Love and Thunder, which is no surprise as his previous direction Thor: Ragnarok is considered the best in the series. The film will see the return of Natalie Portman, who is rumoured to play Lady Thor with Christain Bale playing Gorr the God Butcher
