Lucifer Season 5 has dropped another teaser for Lucifans to decode while they wait for new episodes to stream. The official Twitter account of Lucifer shared a fan cam of Chloe Decker. The 50-second video featured compilations of the Detectives’ invigorating moments. At the end of the video, Chloe can be looking for Lucifer in the LAPD precinct.
Season 5A finale saw Lucifer (Tom Ellis) and Amenadiel lock horns with Maze and Michael. The tag team fight was brought to an abrupt end by an unexpected visitor. The cliffhanger of Season 5 brought in God, who was downhearted of seeing his children fight (Uriel: Am I a joke to you?).
Lucifer Season 5B or part two is likely to drop on Netflix in early 2021. The show had earlier wrapped up production in September. The first eight episodes of Season 5 had earlier premiered on Netflix on August 21.
The Netflix show revolves around Lucifer Morningstar, the fallen angel who becomes disgruntled of being the dutiful ruler of hell. He decides to take a little vacation and heads to Los Angels – which is unquestionably not a City of Angels. He is characterized by his narcissistic and egotistical demeanour. Don’t hold that against him though, he also owns a nightclub and helps the LAPD solve crimes. Which is also where he meets his love Detective Chloe Decker, the only person who is immune to his devilish charms.
The Netflix show is based on the DC comic book character Lucifer Samael Morningstar. The character first made an appearance in The Sandman by Neil Gaiman. The biblical fallen angel then became the main protagonist of ‘Lucifer’ which was published by DC Vertigo.
Will there be a sixth season?
Yes! Lucifer will be back for a final sixth season. The show was originally intended to end with Season 5. However, the growing popularity of the series allowed Netflix to greenlight a sixth season.
It hasn’t been an easy ride for the king of demons. In 2015, 32,000 people signed a petition to cancel the series as they believed that it was ‘glorifying Satan as a caring, likeable person in human flesh’. Despite the limited backlash, Fox decided to renew the show for a second season.
The show would have ended with season 3 in 2018 after Fox decided to cancel the show, largely due to its falling viewership. The news of this cancellation spread like wildfire. Fans, crew members and the cast rallied on Twitter with the hashtag #SaveLucifer campaign. As a result of all the petitions going around, Netflix decided to pick up the series for a fourth season.
In honour of the campaign, the penultimate episode of the fourth season is called ‘Save Lucifer’.
In regards to the sixth season, Showrunner Ildy Modrovich stated, “It’s the story we were always going to tell, but just written much larger and to me so much more interestingly that it breaks my heart to think we weren’t [originally] going to do it this way.”
So it seems that extending the show for a sixth season won’t affect the original intended ending for season 5.
The plot of Lucifer Season 5B?
The character of God (Dennis Haysbert) opens up a whole new plethora of storylines. Lucifer might finally see his ‘daddy issues’ being addressed. We could even see a history of the celestials. Will Michael be punished for his devious schemes? And will Lucifer finally say the three magic words to Chloe? The upcoming season might resolve all the loose ends of the story.
Another thing to keep an eye out for during the new season is the musical episode! We were given a little peek of it during the virtual DC FanDome in September. Check out the stars of Lucifer groove to the Queen song ‘Another One Bites the Dust’.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the 10th episode of Season 5 will be titled ‘Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam’. It will feature multiple musical numbers, finally answering our prayers for a proper musical episode in the series. Singer Debbie Gibson will also have a guest appearance in the episode.
