Peaky Blinders Sets February Premiere For Final Season
Peaky Blinders will return for the sixth and final season of the gripping crime drama series on BBC One from February 27. The official Peaky Blinders Twitter account also revealed that season 6 will consist of only six episodes.
Debuting in 2013, Peaky Blinders follows the story of the titular criminal gang based in Birmingham in 1919 led by Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy).
Oswald Mosely, the fascist commander, survived a failed assassination attempt by Thomas Shelby in the Season 5 finale. Tommy had been betrayed by someone within the family, while Michael and Gina are top contenders, we’ll have to wait until the next season to confirm our suspicions.
Gina’s family and the people who surround Oswald Mosley will be introduced in the new season. Following Michael Gray’s failure to take over Shelby Company Ltd, it appears that the series is positioning Polly Shelby’s son as the season’s enemy. Check out the official trailer for the sixth season!
While Peaky Blinders Season 6 will wrap up Tommy Shelby’s arc, the story of the franchise will continue in a movie – that is expected to start production in 2023.
Series creator Steven Knight discussed the possibility of a Thomas Shelby redemption arc in the final season. Speaking to Variety, Knight said, “The final season] will tell a different story, where Tommy Shelby – who begins as this nihilistic, looking-out only for his family person – will be redeemed, and he will become good. I want to take him on that journey from the person we saw [in Season 1], to the person he will become in 1939.”
Peaky Blinders Season 6 will see the return of Thomas Shelby (Cillian Murphy), Arthur Shelby Jr (Paul Anderson), Michael Gray (Finn Cole) Ada Thorne (Sophie Rundle). Anya Taylor-Joy and Sam Claflin will also reprise their characters of Gina Gray and Oswald Mosley respectively.
Unfortunately, the new season will not feature Murphy’s co-star Helen McRory (Aunt Polly) who died of breast cancer in April 2021.
For viewers around the world, the series will be available for streaming on Netflix a few weeks after it finishes airing in the UK.
