Sony Reveals First Trailer For ‘Uncharted’
Sony Pictures has released the highly anticipated trailer for Uncharted, inspired by the popular video game franchise from Naughty Dog. Starring Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as his mentor Victor “Sully”, the film is a prequel to the games and shines a light on the early days of the duo as treasure hunters. Uncharted is slated to release on February 18, 2022.
Sony Pictures Entertainment, Playstation Productions and Naughty Dog have worked together to bring the Uncharted franchise on the big screen. The project, which first entered development in 2008, saw numerous directors joining and leaving the film. So the fact that the flick is finally releasing and we have a trailer to prove that – is definitely a win for longtime fans. However, the trailer has so far received mixed reactions.
Most people have questioned Tom Holland’s look for the movie considering his game counterpart is more grizzled. An interesting fun fact, Wahlberg was initially cast to play Nathan Drake, but since the film lay in development hell for so long, the actor grew out of the role.
Like most video game adaptations, Uncharted seems to contain several easter eggs and tributes to the original creation. In particular, the cargo scene from the trailer is a sequence that is directly inspired by the third Uncharted game, Drake’s Deception.
It will be 14 years since the Uncharted franchise developed by Naughty Dog for PlayStation graced us with exciting adventures and introduced a plethora of characters we have grown to love. The series has enjoyed the status of being one of the most popular games for Playstation and soon PC gamers will be able to enjoy it as well.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection will be released on PC and PS5 in early 2022!
In fact, another video game adaption from Naughty Dog – The Last of Us, is already in the works as a tv show on HBO Max. The film is set to star Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie.
Uncharted is directed by Ruben Fleischer (Venom) and also stars Sophia Ali as Chloe Frazer, Antonio Banderas and Tati Gabrielle.
