Spider-Man: No Way Home Review
Spider-Man: No Way Home, the most awaited title of 2021 is finally here. The crowd-pleasing and fan servicing Spider-Man film cashes in on all the nostalgia from long time fans but sticks the landing to create arguably the best live-action Spider-Man film to date.
Spider-Man: No Way Home is not only a fabulous movie on its own, but it somehow enhances prior Spider-Man films featuring Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield as the web-slinger. This movie officially marks the end of director Jon Watts “Home” trilogy starting from Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) followed up by Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019).
Interestingly, Spider-Man: No Way Home is even bigger than Avengers: Endgame since the movie acts like the compilation of almost two decades of movies starting from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man (2002). No Way Home combines three different universes that were never meant to be connected, but it connects and provides a sense of closure to all the characters involved.
Speaking about the villains, Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe) and Doc Ock (Alfred Molina) steal the show. Electro (Jamie Foxx) is completely different to the last time we saw him in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which is a relief – as this version is much much better. Meanwhile, Lizard (Rhys Ifans) and Sandman (Thomas Haden Church) relatively take back seats.
Willem Dafoe who reprises his role of Green Goblin from Spider-Man (2002) is simply fantastic. From the sinister voice to the hair-chilling performance, Dafoe nails the representation of the character and leaves a mark in the MCU as one the best villains we have seen. To add, Dafoe has performed all the stunts for the movie himself.
Watching Alfred Molina portray Doc Ock gave us some serious throwback to Spider-Man 2 (2004), though some special effects were used to restore Molina to his younger self.
The ending of the film was quite emotional and sets up major changes for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man. Despite all its praises, few fans were left disappointed that the ‘Sinister Six’ from the comic books failed to make an appearance in the film.
As for its impact on the box office, Spider-Man: No Way Home is shattering records despite the emergence of a new variant. The film is set to hit the $1 billion mark on Christmas Day – which would make this the first film of the pandemic era to hit the milestone and the second-fastest title ever at 11 days after Avengers: Endgame.
It’s safe to say that Christmas indeed arrived early for Marvel fans!
